The workout timer
How the AMRAP, EMOM, and For-time timers behave.
The timer is designed to let you focus on the work, not the phone. The app picks the format that suits your workout — there’s no format to choose on the Train screen.
Supported formats
- AMRAP — as many rounds as possible within a fixed time. You count your rounds.
- EMOM — every minute on the minute: a movement starts each interval for a set number of intervals.
- For time — complete the prescribed work; an optional time cap can stop the clock.
AMRAP means “as many rounds as possible”; it is explained in the app where it matters.
Pause, resume, finish
You can pause and resume at any time. The elapsed time is measured from a steady clock, so pausing doesn’t lose or inflate your time. Tap Finish when you’re done.
Time caps and partial sessions
- If a For-time workout reaches its cap, the result is recorded as capped, not as a finish.
- If you stop early, you can save a partial result. The app records what you actually completed.
Interrupted sessions
If the app is backgrounded or closed mid-session, it keeps a recovery snapshot so you can resume where you left off. A workout in progress is never silently discarded.
The timer runs on your device and does not need a connection.
